I see you've heard from Beau. I am ecstatic that he has finally opened up and started writing for you guys. He's been talking about it for months... always thinking about what he should tell and how he should say this thing or that. He's a great guy, but sometimes he worries too much. Me... I just say what's on my mind... most of the time.
It is a pleasure to make your acquaintence. My name is Bambi Brooks. At least that's what everyone calls me, so it'll do for now. I love my husband and partner in everything, Beau. I love my kids, even more so now that they are out of our house. (Just kidding, sprouts!) I love going places and seeing things and having fun and making life better for the people we meet.
That is what we do. We are not famous movie stars or authors or politicos. We are not rich or especially talented. We do not necessarily even solve any mysteries. Well, sometimes we do that, but only in the process of accomplishing what we really mean to do. What we intend to do is (1) make the world a little friendlier and survivable for the people we meet, (2) stay fascinated with the people we meet and places we find, and (3) have fun in the process. All that makes for an interesting life. It keeps us satisfied and happy - as long as we can do it together.
Beau is the out-of-the-box thinker... historian, geographer, academic, tactician, planner... His interests are kind of eclectic. I mean, he's interested in a lot of different things. You never know whether you'll find him listening to Bach or Buffett, reading Steinbeck or Hawking or Rowling, hiking or writing or watching the clouds blow by. You could say he's a fully functional eccentric.
I am the one who can talk to anyone, and usually does. I'm a little more grounded and practical, although he usually helps keep me focused. When I start following a train of thought or conversation, I just follow it until it gives out or until I fall from exhaustion. Beau helps me accomplish more by channeling my energy. No, not like J.Z. Knight. That's a different kind of channeling. We actually met her once, though... but... Beau tells me I'm off topic... so back to the point. He does help me focus but I did manage to get myself fairly well established professionally before he entered my life. In two different fields at that, and while being a mom, working day and night. I'd do it again, too... but I'm happy to report that is no longer necessary.
Anyway, here we are. Me, Bambi. And Beau. We are active, involved, and ready to write about some of it, at least. As long as the telling doesn't get in the way of what we're doing, of course. Happy to have you along for the ride. We'll be in touch.
Bambi
P.S. See, Mom, I told you we'd get this autobiographic enterprise underway. Hey, when are you and Dad coming down, anyway? Beau and I are going to Yuma later this month... MEB
P.P.S. Remind me to tell you the J.Z. Knight story later. MEB
